Certified Birth Doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator

"My passion to come alongside of women and their labor companions is one that has grown for almost two decades. As a mother of four children, I understand many of the hopes, fears, questions, and above all, the joys that come with expecting a newborn. It’s my privilege as a doula (Greek for “woman who serves”) to offer educational, emotional, and hands-on support to women and their birth partners during pregnancy, continuously throughout labor, and in the precious first hours to weeks following birth.

As a certified Lamaze educator, my classes follow a philosophy that instills confidence in women preparing to give birth and become mothers—in partners learning ways to provide practical support through the many twists and turns of labor—in preparing both for the transition into life with a newborn. Participants learn about medications and medical procedures, including the benefits and risks of each, which will help them to make informed decisions. Extended time is given to practice relaxation, breathing, comfort measures, and ways to help labor progress—all are beneficial, even for those planning on a medicated birth. I invite class members to lay down their fears of the unknown and replace them with the understanding that birth is a process to be trusted, and their bodies already know just what to do. Childbirth education ought to be far more than an academic exercise—it’s an amazing journey of discovery!"

Heike Dedmone CCCE, CPD
CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator
Certified Postpartum Doula

" I have always been fascinated by the miracle of pregnancy and birth. After becoming the mother of two daughters and while pregnant with my third, my husband David encouraged me to incorporate my passion into a meaningful career by training to become a certified Childbirth Educator (CAPPA) and Postpartum Doula (Desert Doulas). I also teach Prepared Childbirth classes at the Life Resource Center, and I am currently working towards my certification as a Breastfeeding
Counselor.

I feel blessed and privileged to have the opportunity to help prepare expectant parents for the arrival of their little baby. My hope is that each couple will cherish their birth experience as a precious and wonderful time in their lives, as well as be informed, educated and comfortable with any decision they will make. I hope to empower women with the knowledge of their inner wisdom during childbirth and help the birth partners appreciate their value in the important role of supporting Mom during this wonderful and unique experience.

My 'Prepared Childbirth' class is designed to prepare you for labor and the birth of your baby. In addition it helps you understand what to expect after the arrival of your little one, including getting breastfeeding off to a good start."

We recommend that you complete your class by week 36-38.
